With Episode 55, we decided to post a recent mix submission from BDThursday listener and house DJ, DJ GoGetta.  This mix is a slow, steady build and blend of tranquil yet uplifting house beats.  A great party starter or background piece at your Summer pool party.

In his own words…
DJ GoGetta, aka Rene Fernandez Jr.  Born 1988 in Boston, MA to parents both from Colombia.  Ever since a little child he’s been around music. Genres ranging from Salsa, Cumbia, Vallenato, Pop, Alternative & Soft Rock, Reggae, Hip-Hop, Merengue, Dance, etc.  Currently residing in Fort. Lauderdale, FL  & still at it with the music!

With a few minor gigs such as house parties, a few nights @ Club Living Room in South Beach FL, & still really new in the DJ world, he’s on the run to be a GoGETTA in the music scene.   Also in school at the moment studying Printing & Graphic Design to further his skills & not have to rely on anyone!  In addition, GoGetta has joined forces with some local artists, working with GG aka Koncept on original and remix production pieces, look for the duo’s mixtape coming soon!

OH Shi*!!!!! 1 year!  Our 52nd straight week (ok, maybe we missed one or two, but who’s counting?)

Since last April, our podcast has had over 35 different dj’s and thousands of downloads!

Big thanks to all that have followed the site as we’ve grown and changed and to all the DJ’s that have taken time to put together awesome sets for our listener’s.

For our 1 year mix, DJ Art Beatz put together a monster one hour mix, recorded live at Boiler Room Worcester!  It includes a number of his own NEW production pieces and remixes – including Go Crazy (ft. Fatman Scoop & Clinton Sparks) among many others (full track list below).

DJ Art Beatz is a producer, DJ and remixer whose creativity and passion for music keeps him working around the clock.  “I wake up in the middle of the night to compose a beat,” he says.  The Baghdad-born, Worcester, Massachusetts-based 25-year- old creates a sound all his own by bringing together the music of his homeland of Iraq with the current sounds of house/ techno, rap, reggae, reggaeton, and R&B.  He also draws inspiration from the work of past masters. Art’s brother Bassam, who learned to play music on a church organ in Baghdad, taught him to play music by ear. Art now composes beautiful pieces whenever he sits down at anything with keys, be it a baby grand piano or a Korg Triton keyboard in his home studio. His mastery of Logic and Pro Tools allows him to create music in nearly any location.

In addition to recording at the Art Beatz Studio, Art recorded with acts at the prestigious Long View Farm Studios, which has hosted greats such as the The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and Mos Def, as well Cybersound in Boston. Art Beatz new record “Go Crazy” with Ariez Onasis ft. Fatman Scoop & Clinton Sparks has gained airplay on Boston’s JAM’N 94.5 in 2011. Beatz has also produced beats for major artists Nicki Minaj, Fatman Scoop, Clinton Sparks, Jae Millz as well as reggae artist Pritty Boy.

Art is the current resident DJ at the Boiler Room and was formerly the resident DJ at Amsterdam Lounge and Canal Lounge, all in Worcester, MA. He also currently plays in Boston & Providence clubs. Some of his past gigs featured DJs like Clinton Sparks, DJ Skribble, DJ Enferno, Boris and Crooklyn Clan’s DJ Sizzahandz as well as Celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson. He has numerous mixtapes, including his most recent release, House Invasion (January 2011). His remixes of songs by artists such as Lil Jon and Britney
Spears span several music genres.

This week, we feature Party Wax’s duo of Superfly and Shakka with 60 minutes of BREAKBEATS!!

Superfly & Shakka have been writing, producing and spinning electronic music since the mid 90′s. The duo has produced a slew of hit breakbeat records and continue to make hot club tracks today. Their definitive style includes funky breaks with nuschool flavor, heavy bass and reggae vocals.

Shakka is originally from Wareham, MA and began writing and producing hip hop back in the late 80′s as a young teen. He would later move to Florida at 21 and get involved in the electronic music scene. Shortly after moving to Florida, Shakka would go on to produce Xquizit Record’s first release “What We Gonna Do” with DJ X. It was at Xquizit where Shakka would meet Superfly Jeff, also an artist on Xquizit in the late 90′s. Superfly Jeff ran a successful 100,000 Watt Florida electronic radio show called “The Perimeter” and played out regularly.

Shakka returned to Boston and continued to produce records with Xquizit. Superfly Jeff also moved to Boston which sealed the deal of the two working together. After getting together in 2001, Superfly & Shakka formed Party Wax Records. Their first release “We Come Sweet” was pressed on 12″ Vinyl and was charted and played by popular artists DJ Icey, Plump DJs and others. Party Wax Records has released a series of funky and nu school breaks records with various artists including DJ Fixx, DJ Viro, FrequenZ and Sonny Bazzano, each containing a classic Superfly & Shakka reggae break track that always gets the dance floor moving.

Superfly & Shakka are celebrating their 10 year Party Wax Reunion and are finishing up their new CD. The CD is planned to be a mixture of old school songs, nu school remixes and brand new Superfly & Shakka tracks. The CD release tour dates are expected soon. Fans can listen to unreleased tracks on the Party Wax Sound Cloud page.
